Built on Work Ethic from the Start

Scoville Painting didn’t begin with a formal business plan or a large crew. It began with initiative and a willingness to work.

In the spring of 1974, at just 12 years old, Shane Scoville was asked by his school librarian if he would paint his home. That first job led to another, and soon he was painting houses for senior citizens around town. He rode his bicycle from project to project, earning $1.25 an hour and taking pride in every finished surface.

Even then, one thing was clear: doing the job correctly mattered.

After serving in the United States Navy, Shane returned home and in 1985 officially founded Scoville Painting & Wallpapering in Kingston, New York. His first advertisement ran in the Daily Freeman. The first official project was a two-story residential exterior. He hired a friend to help and the company steadily grew from there.

The equipment was simple in those early years. The standards were not.

What defined the company wasn’t the size of the crew or the number of trucks. It was consistency. Showing up. Doing the work properly. Standing behind it.

That mindset extended beyond painting.

Shane became known within the Mid-Hudson community as someone people relied on when something needed to be done and done right. His dedication and willingness to serve were formally recognized in a feature highlighting his leadership within the Mid-Hudson Chapter.

The qualities described there - reliability, commitment, and follow-through - are the same qualities that built Scoville Painting.

Recognition for leadership and service within the Mid-Hudson community.

That standard has never changed.

Scoville Painting was built on preparation, discipline, and pride in the finished result. Decades later, that same mindset defines every project.

For Shane, the business has always been about more than paint.

It’s about independence. Craftsmanship. And earning trust one home at a time.

Established Community Work

Over time, some projects become part of the fabric of the community.

Scoville Painting has contributed to work at institutions such as the Ulster County YMCA a facility that has served Hudson Valley families for decades.

Projects in public and high-traffic environments require coordination, reliability, and workmanship that holds up under constant use. They are completed the same way every project is approached with preparation, organization, and attention to detail.

In some cases, that work becomes part of the building’s history.

The dedication plaque listing Shane Scoville Painting Co. reflects documented involvement in long-standing commercial projects that remain part of the Hudson Valley community today.

Preparation and Process Matter

Painting is not simply applying a new coat of color. The condition of the surface, the environment, and how a space is used all influence how well a finish will perform.

Our approach includes:

  • Evaluating surface condition before work begins

  • Addressing necessary preparation and minor repairs

  • Protecting surrounding areas

  • Applying coatings suited to local conditions

  • Maintaining organized job sites throughout the project

By focusing on preparation first, we reduce the likelihood of premature peeling, uneven finishes, or avoidable issues later.

Serving Homes and Businesses Across the Hudson Valley

Scoville Painting works with homeowners updating interior spaces, maintaining exterior surfaces, and business owners refreshing commercial environments.

Residential projects often require coordination within occupied homes. Commercial work may require structured scheduling and clear communication.

Across both, the expectations remain the same: professionalism, reliability, and clean results.

Professionalism From Start to Finish

Clients working with Scoville Painting can expect:

  • Clear communication

  • Organized project planning

  • Respect for the property

  • Consistent, clean finishes

  • Work completed with care

Inviting a painting company into your home or business requires trust. Maintaining that trust is central to every project.
